“Sympoiesis is a simple word; it means “making-with”. [...]Sympoiesis is a word proper to complex, dynam-ic, responsive, situated, historical systems. It is a world for worlding-with, in company. Sympoiesis enfolds au-topoiesis and generatively unfurls and extends it.”
- Donna J. Haraway, Staying with the Trouble. Making Kin in the Chthulucene
How can a new collective future be shaped - in a world of economic, ecological, democratic, and human crises? How do we manage not to think within limits and differences? Can we create integration and holistic connectivity? How can we rethink connectivity?
"Sympoiesis" emerges against the background of these questions. An event concept that is not about the individual - that does not even think in individuals. Sympoiesis is the idea of a collective, in which synergy and heterogeneity of different disciplines create new impulses. The intimacy of the actors unfolds in consonant determination. Sympoiesis is a collective platform on which unique, virtual art experiences are created through holistic storytelling and the collaboration of Berlin artists and talents. The result is a comprehensive event concept with a low ecological footprint, in which knowledge and aesthetic resources are exchanged.
Through the lecture event + concept sympoiesis emerged as a collaborative project, which took place as a reaction to the corona pandemic developing new immersive concepts for virtual fashion events.
Sympoiesis is an aesthetic encounter of holistic problems. We want to create response-ability to each other. The ability to act and interact by taking responsibility for our actions and thereby approaching nature, human and non-human species. Sypmpoesis is an artistic and aesthetic movement in a comprehensive, political, and social context. A movement and call to rethink, to becoming-with-nature.
In virtual spaces, a new understanding of the future and community are addressed. Sympoiesis shows to what extent condensed artistic synergies can be experienced digitally and directly. With a 360° app, visitors can enter the curated rooms and feel, sense, hear, and experience art in an interdisciplinary way.
Sympoiesis as a collective portfolio of digital art experience develops new approaches, invites the visitor to rethink and formulates new perspectives in dealing with human and non-human species. Sympoiesis is more than a digital art platform. Sympoiesis is a collective encounter with humanity in the digital zeitgeist.
Concept, planning, and visualization were developed by Stefan Brunner, Melenie Hecker, Gal Sherizly, and Sarah Luisa Kuhlewind as part of the online course ConCept + Event as a reaction to the corona pandemic developing new immersive ideas of virtual event conception. Bringing together different disciplines of art, fashion, music and technology forming a synergetic collaborative .
